Welcome!
Welcome to the inaugural Games in Education Newsletter! You are receiving this newsletter because educators are important to Chi-Tag. Our goal is to share tips and hints on ways to include games in your curriculum. Games improve higher order thinking skills and place facts and information in a meaningful context, which studies have shown leads to greater retention and greater interest in the subject matter. Please feel free to forward this newsletter to your co-workers, colleagues and anyone else interested in the educational potential of games!

Games as Educational Tools
Many people would probably be surprised to know that the use of games as educational tools is a legitimate, respected area of study and practice. Games, also known as simulations, are used extensively in diverse environments from corporate training to military training, from the healthcare industry to manufacturing. Decision-makers have discovered that people are more interested when games or simulations are employed for training. This leads to greater receptiveness, greater retention, and greater involvement in their training. Many studies have been done over the last thirty years regarding the effectiveness of games and simulations as educational tools. The majority of these studies have shown superior math improvement with the use of games, superior content retention with the use of games, and superior interest in the subject matter.

A Game that Teaches Geometry and Logic
Treehouse is the exciting new logic-based pyramid game for 2-4 players. Each game lasts only 5-10 minutes - but you'll want to rack them up again and again each time someone wins. Each player rolls the custom die to determine if they will TIP, SWAP, DIG, AIM, or HOP their Tree of three pyramids while they tryto make them match the configuration
of the shared goal called The House (the black pieces.) Roll a WILD and you can change your own Tree or The House!

Not only does this game teach logical progression and step-by-step analysis to get from point A to point B, it also cultivates geometric thinking. The game is played on an imaginary two-dimensional plane (yes, two - not three!). Imagine a grid of lines on the table (or literally create a grid to play on). Now the geometric aspect of this game becomes clear! Great potential lurks in this game for extention activies in geometry and logic.
